Reviews
Mine: Great fun. I love watching it over and over. Some of the best lines ever. The book is great as well. "Life is pain your highness, any who say otherwise is selling you something."
Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: Revisionist fairy tale/adventure about a beautiful young woman and her one true love, who must find and rescue her after a long separation. Some wonderful scenes and character vignettes are periodically undermined by a tendency toward comic shtick (as in Crystal's cameo appearance) and occasional incoherency (as in the opening scenes with Castilian-tongued Patinkin and marble-mouthed Andre the Giant). Best of all: the swashbuckling sequences. Bonus for old-movie buffs: watching Guest, as Count Rugen, imitate Henry Daniell (from THE SEA HAWK). Screenplay by William Goldman, from his novel.

This really is a movie I have seen countless times and it still is magical! If you believe in love and like to laugh, you are bound to enjoy this film. If you are cynical or bitter, beware- this movie is aesthetically beautiful and idealistic- love conquers all, even "death cannot stop true love." "Princess Bride" is very funny, and not just the parts that Billy Crystal is in. Even Andre the Giant doesnt do too badly, especially for a wrestler- but I digress.
