Biography from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:

This vibrant comic actress originally trained to sing opera, and appeared in cabaret revues before winning acting jobs, first on stage, then in films beginning with the hilarious Swedishdialect shortThe Dove/Die Duva (1968). Peter Bogdanovich cast her as Ryan O'Neal's uptight fiancˇe for a hilarious feature debut in What's Up, Doc? (1972), and also steered her Oscar-nominated performance in Paper Moon (1973). Kahn's giddy charm was best exploited by director Mel Brooks in three 1970s comedies:Blazing Saddles (1974, as Dietrich-styled temptress Lily von Shtupp, which earned her an Oscar nomination), Young Frankenstein (1974, hilarious as the Monster's bride), and High Anxiety (1977, as a Hitchcockian heroine). Pigeonholed as a comedienne, she has also played more restrained characters such as Molly Ringwald's mother in Betsy's Wedding (1990). A 1983-84 attempt to make her TV's new Lucy, in a series called "Oh Madeline," failed badly. She has spent more time on stage in recent years, and won a 1993 Best Actress Tony Award for her work in Wendy Wasserstein's "The Sisters Rosensweig."
